The U.S. Government shutdown continues to affect U.S. data distributions among other issues with the Consumer Price Index that was expected on Wednesday delayed until October 24th.
The government is in its 14th day of shutdown, at the time of this publishing, with no end in sight. One of the main points of contention is the continuation of subsidies for the Affordable Care Act - which Democrats view as non-negotiable. However, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson was quoted saying he “won’t negotiate” until Democrats reopen the government. Meanwhile, Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought has begun federal layoffs with over 4,000 workers receiving layoff notices including more than 1,400 in the U.S. Treasury Department and over 1,000 from the Department of Health and Human Services.
