April 28 – May 2, 2025
US Economic Data Releases:
On Wednesday (Apr 30th), the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) will publish GDP figures for Q1. This is the first GDP release under the current administration and investors will pay attention to this number to gauge the impact of the uncertainty created by President Trump’s trade policies. Currently the market expectation is for a 0.3% QoQ reading, while Q4 GDP reading was 2.4%.
Also on Wednesday, PCE inflation numbers for March will be released. Although we already had CPI numbers for March, the market will be watching this release to get a better sense of the Fed’s expected course of action in the coming months.
On Thursday (May 1st), the Department of Labor Statistics will publish jobless claims figures. Initial jobless claims in the US rose by 6,000 to 222,000 for the third week of Apr. For the week ending on April 26th, the market expects jobless claims at 224,000.
On Friday (May 2nd), The Bureau of Economy Analysis will publish its employment report. The current market forecast is for the U.S. economy to have added 133K jobs in April versus 228K jobs added in March. The expected reduction reflects the reduction in government workforce brought about by the DOGE cuts.
International Data releases:
This week we will have GDP releases for Mexico and Canada on Wednesday and CPI data for Australia on Tuesday 29th and for the Eurozone on Friday May 2nd.
