Comerica Bank sponsored a publisher’s dinner in Jacksonville, FL, bringing together business leaders from across the city to discuss the role of company culture in successful succession planning.
Tim Gibbons, Editor-in-Chief of the Jacksonville Business Journal and moderator of the discussion, asked panelists how they ensure they’re not leaving future leadership to chance and what they’re doing to make leaders of the future. Their responses came down to a word: culture.
“You need a culture that produces leaders,” said Bob Buchanan, Senior VP, National Practice Leader, Business Transition Planning with Comerica Wealth Management. “If you have that, it doesn’t matter what path you’re going down, you’re going to be much more successful.”
Dinner participants, including prominent Jacksonville business owners and executives, shared their best tips for creating a culture that promotes next-level leadership. Tips included engaging the next generation of leaders, offering remote work and starting succession planning early.
Ultimately, the conversation provided valuable insights from leaders who have experienced many of the most difficult parts of running a successful business. Their lessons are critical for anyone looking to do the same thing.
