Protecting your card and digital payments
Your security is our priority. Comerica uses advanced authentication, encryption, and continuous monitoring to safeguard your card and digital transactions. Whether you pay with your card, online or through digital wallets, your information stays protected.
Safeguard your data
Here are some additional tips for protecting your ATM, debit card, and digital payments.
Protect your card
- Be aware of impersonators. Scammers will often pose as a bank or company representative, asking for your card information, credentials, security codes and/or PIN (personal identification number). Never disclose this information. Legitimate bank representatives and sellers will never call, text, or send an email with the intention of obtaining this data.
- Take common-sense precautions. Never leave your card unattended. Sign your card on the signature panel as soon as you receive it.
- When choosing between using a credit or debit card, keep in mind that hotels and car rental companies may choose to place additional holds on funds.
Protect your PIN
- Always observe your surroundings before conducting an ATM transaction. Block the view of others when using an ATM or point-of-sale (POS) terminal.
- When using an ATM machine, look for possible fraudulent devices attached to the ATM for the purpose of spying and recording information. Report anything suspicious to Comerica Bank immediately.
- Never allow the cashier or any other person to enter your PIN for you, even if they are assisting you with the transaction.
- When selecting a PIN, do not use personally identifiable information such as your initials, birth date, telephone number, or Social Security number.
- Memorize your PIN. If you must write down your PIN, do not keep it in your wallet, purse, or on the card itself.
Protect your account
- Check the withdrawal and deposit amounts on your ATM receipts. If there is a problem with the amount, contact Comerica immediately.
- Check the purchase amounts on the sales slip before you sign it. If the amount is different than the amount you owe, let the sales clerk know. Do not sign the slip.
- Review your bank statements regularly and keep your statements in a safe place.
- Report lost or stolen cards or unauthorized transactions on your account to Comerica Bank immediately.
Digital payment options
- Contactless payments involve tapping or scanning a card to a payment device or using digital payment methods via apps such as Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, or Samsung Pay.
- This form of payment is secure due to its use of encryption and added privacy as your card never leaves your hand during the payment process.
- Since the pandemic, contactless payments have increased in popularity. Customers often choose this method for its ease of use, security, and touch-free safety.
- Make sure that the device that holds your contactless payment method is secured with password protection and biometric verification.
