Commercial Lending Training Program

Your Training

Your first step to becoming a Commercial Lender at Comerica is to successfully complete your Commercial Lending Training Program. Designed to be the very best of its kind in the industry, the program is taught by experienced Comerica staff members with invaluable real-world, on-the-job expertise. Your 18-24 month training program includes classroom training followed by continuing education and rotational assignments.

Classroom

A quick orientation course will familiarize you with the Comerica philosophy and organization. It's followed by a Credit College that provides you with formalized training and credit concepts, as well as Comerica's approach to commercial credit analysis and underwriting.

On the Job

We provide a series of 6-9 month rotating assignments that allow you the opportunity to work in large corporate lending, middle market, small business lending or specialty lending areas. You'll learn to underwrite loans and assess credit risk to the bank as well as accompany loan officers on customer calls and meetings.

What it Takes​

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting/Finance
  • Three accounting courses -OR- Two accounting courses with one advanced finance (to include financial statement and analysis) course
  • Overall GPA of 3.0
  • The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Previous customer service and sales experience preferred
  • Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Retail Management Development Program

Your Training

Candidates must complete the 12-month Retail Management Development Program, with an overall 24-month commitment to branch banking. This is a valuable, highly-structured program which can provide you with the opportunities to be involved with all steps of branch banking including:

  • Sales

  • New Business Development
  • Most of your training will occur on the job, and will include specific job responsibilities and goals which may be supplemented by training workshops. After successfully completing the 12-month program, you'll be eligible for promotion to a Management position.

Financial Analyst Rotational Program

Your Training

Comerica's hands-on Financial Analyst Rotational Program consists of a series of 4-month rotations among various groups in the Finance Department. Analysts in the program will participate in two to four of these rotations, before selecting a permanent position in the department. This comprehensive training is designed to give you a broad perspective of the responsibilities and opportunities available to you as a valued member of the Finance Department at Comerica. Some of the areas you'll train for could involve the following:

Your Program

Joining Comerica’s Internal Audit Team is a great way to start a career in the Financial Services Industry.  As a member of the Internal Audit Team, you’ll be exposed to many different businesses within the company, giving you the opportunity to influence and provide solutions in a variety of business units.  This experience will prove to be an invaluable asset as you advance professionally in Audit or other areas of the organization.

The Program

This program combines in-house and external training.  We also encourage and support our team members’ growth through networking in professional organizations related to accounting, auditing, and the financial services industry.  Audit team members are also eligible for financial support to seek professional certifications and designations. 

Your Ideas Count

We value the input and suggestions of all team members.  As a part of Comerica’s Internal Audit group, you’ll have the opportunity to present ideas to enhance department procedures and practices.  In addition, as you perform reviews of financial, operations, and information technology controls, you’ll gain an overall perspective of various business units and the organizations as a whole.
